Top Drift Round 3 was a very difficult round to cope with, for drivers, staff, and media alike. It was extremely hot, breezy, and the sun pounded spirits to a pulp all day long. The main focus seemed to be staying cool and hydrated, while driving and winning came second. The combination of heat and broken spirits had drivers jumping in their tow rigs and heading home the moment they were knocked out of competition.
Vegas ProAm has held 2 of their rounds on the outside road course at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this year. At this track, there’s not much one can do about the layout to keep the action close to the spectators and pits, except run the previous competition course backwards. Round 4 Vegas ProAm was an exception, because LVMS had repaved the entire track just days before drifting was scheduled. This gave Nick Dizon of Vegas Drift an opportunity to throw routine out the window, and design a layout that was guaranteed to make drivers reconsider their style and techniques.
With all the crazy running around with Formula Drift and hitting Vegas ProAm every round, we were excited and felt a little refreshment when we kept it at home this past weekend with our home series, Top Drift at Willow Springs Raceway. Top Drift Round 2 on Horsethief Mile is likely the favorite round for regulars to drive, due to the track choice being extremely popular because of its fun and technical nature. It is however, not a beginner friendly track, so we knew drivers would have to drive hard and smart to advance into a winning position at this round.
Streetwise Drift officially started their Pro-Am season at Gresham Motorsports Park just one day after the completion of Formula Drift Round 2 at Road Atlanta.
When you come to Vegas for Vegas Drift, you expect it to be hot. While the weather wasn’t all that hot, it didn’t mean the drifting wasn’t! After what seemed to be an endless winter here on the east coast, SWD was finally able to kickoff both their Pro-Am and Amateur series this past weekend at Metrolina Expo in Charlotte NC. A lot of this year’s Pro-Am competitors were in attendance to complete tech and shakedown their cars for the 2014 season. Even though this wasn’t a points earning Pro-Am event, the majority of drivers took to the track to make smoke with some local and regional Am drivers.
