Formula Drift Atlanta Qualifying Results – May 9, 2014

Qualifying was wet. When we say wet, we mean probably the most rainfall that we have ever shot anything in. Being at Road Atlanta, which is a real race track with grass edges, the track quickly turned into an ice rink with spots of slick mud. In our opinion, a wet track really ruins competition drifting for us…not that it lacks skill to control a car in the wet, but because there is no smoke in the rain, and that’s half of what makes the sport fun! But, given the lack of dry conditions, it was interesting, sometimes hilarious, to watch the great Formula Drift drivers attempt to put together some good qualifying scores.

Motegi Super Drift Challenge – LBGP – April 11-12, 2014

$25,000, thats a lot of money, and Motegi Racing would award it to the winner of the Motegi Racing Super Drift Challenge in the after hours of the second day of the Long Beach Grand Prix, on the same portion of track that Formula Drift used the weekend before. For $25,000, even we thought about drifting so we could have a chance! The Motegi Racing Super Drift Challenge was invite only, which dashed our dreams of being newbie heroes.

Formula Drift Long Beach – Top 32 – April 5, 2014

After a day of wall bashing qualifying fun, the Top 32 had been set. Drivers were bracketed against other drivers they fear, or ones they would undoubtedly trample in a wall of smoke. Competition day was bound to be full of awkward excitement, due to Formula Drift’s new rules for the 2014 season, such as no battle for 3rd place, no protest until the Great 8, and many other rules that left fans scratching and shaking their heads. Nonetheless, the fans still showed up.
